How we helped a founder with Series A fundraise and formulation of long term exit strategy

Objectives

The founder is running a revenue generating, high growth and profitable international business.

The potential scale of opportunity identified was huge. Not just in terms of growing the total addressable market via entering new product verticals but also via expanding into new geographies.

Although the business is already profitable, the founder wanted to run faster to ensure first mover advantage was achieved.

We needed to explore ideas around attracting the right forms of external capital, formulate a business plan with a financial model, draft the pitch deck show potential exit routes for value realisation in the longer term.

Process

It all started with a simple conversation. Where does the founder want to be in short, medium and long term, and what is the blue sky opportunity for the business and its products.

Second phase was to look at financials and what is possible in 5 years’ time based on the additional capital injection, and eventually what would be the exit strategy - gradual selldown, outright M&A or maybe even an IPO.

It was important to put this all on paper. Help with equity story formulation and pitch presentation drafting. Drafting the financial model starting with unit economics and ending with returns for potential investors and capital providers.

Introduction to capital providers - innovation economy lending banks, and investors that understand the business vertical.

Outcomes

A fully formed investment case with accompanying materials drafted collaboratively - a one pager, a full pitch deck and a financial model that backs it all up.

A fully briefly and rehearsed founder backed by key members of the management team. Ready for pitch meetings.

An agreed investor and lending bank targeting strategy, including names and individuals. Introductions made, and meetings attended together. Interest from various parties and investment documentation in progress.
